In the event of a server failure or database corruption, an EtaPRO database may need to be restored. This task can easily be accomplished using SQL Server Management Studio. When the differential backup routine is used, the databases should be restored using these instructions (adapted from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms175510(v=sql.105).aspx):
Restoring SQL Database
Note: Restoration of a full backup is necessary before restoring the differential backup. Both the full backup file and differential backup file are required.
Before restoring a SQL database currently in use by EtaPRO, all EtaPRO services should be stopped.
STEP 1 - Restore Full Backup
A. Open the Restore Database window in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
B. Ensure that the To database field is filled in with the name that you want (FIGURE 2).
C. Choose From device as the Source for restore (FIGURE 2).
D. Choose the full backup file that you want to restore. In most cases this is the most recent full backup file. Select OK.
E. Once back in the Restore Database form, Check the box and click Options page on the left navigation pane .
F. Choose Leave the database non-operational, and do not roll back uncommitted transactions. Additional transaction logs can be restored.(RESTORE WITH NORECOVERY). This is the most important step!!!
Note: If only restoring a Full Backup, select the first option.
STEP 2 - Restore Differential Backup
A. Select the database that was recently restored. Note the (Restoring…) sign next to the database. Open the Restore Database window in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (FIGURE 6).
B. Ensure that the To database field is filled in with the name that you want (The same that you specified in STEP 1B to Restore Full Backup).
C. Choose From device as the Source for restore.
D. Choose the differential backup file that you want to restore. In most cases, this is the most recent differential backup file. Click OK.
E. Once back in the Restore Database form, Check the box and click Options page on the left navigation pane.
F. Choose the default: Leave the database ready to use by rolling back uncommitted transactions. Additional transaction logs cannot be restored.(RESTORE WITH RECOVERY) Make sure to choose this if you want to use your database after the restore (FIGURE 9).
Post-Restoration: Once the database has been restored, ensure the security and user mapping is correct, select the database name in the EtaPRO Service Manager Configuration Settings and restart the EtaPRO services.
